Pool company president pleads guilty to drowning death of boy

Posted on May 19th, 2011 No Comments

The president of Shoreline Pools in Connecticut recently pled guilty to not installing a safety feature on a family’s swimming pool drain, which led to the drowning death¬†of a young boy.

The six-year-old boy was swimming in his family’s pool in 2007, when powerful¬†suction from the pool drain caused his body to become trapped under the water. The boy drowned, and his family filed a lawsuit against the president of the company who installed the pool drain.

Prosecutors stated in the trial that the swimming pool company had a history of overlooking safety features in order to cut costs. The president of the company avoided a 10-year prison sentence by pleading guilty in the case. He was sentenced to 500 hours of probation.
