A 15 year-old Florida mother is suing Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center for negligence after her then three-month old daughter had her pinky finger accidentally cut off by a nurse.
The mother took her daughter to the hospital for bronchitis and a high fever last October. The child was in the hospital for three days and had to have an IV. When the nurse went to cut the bandage connected to the IV tube, she accidentally severed the baby’s finger.
She was rushed to Tampa General Hospital, but surgeons were unable to reattach the finger because the nerve endings were too small. The mom is concerned about the potential emotional and physical effects her daughter could suffer.
