Man breaks neck diving into shallow water

Posted on August 31st, 2011 No Comments

A 21 year-old man is lucky to be alive after he broke his neck when he dove into shallow water. The Oregon swimmer was swimming with his girlfriend when they saw kids jumping into a deep part of the lake. He said the kids warned him to jump in feet first, since it was really shallow in some parts, but he wanted to show off and dive in.

He broke his fourth,  fifth, and sixth cervical vertebrae and also bruised his seventh. The man now has a titanium plate and bolt implanted in his neck. Luckily, he is not paralyzed and is expected to make a full recovery after several months in physical therapy.
