A long-time former Sylvania mayor was killed in a boating accident over the weekend in Ontario. The 71-year-old was a respected politician who served as mayor of the small city of Sylvania, near Toledo, from 1977 to 1995.
According to the Toledo Blade, he was on a fishing trip with two high school friends on Lake of the Woods when the boat appears to have malfunctioned, causing it to crash into a rock wall. The man and one friend were killed instantly.
A third passenger on board was injured but is said to be in stable condition.
The former mayor is survived by his wife, six children, and five grandchildren.
