A Baltimore family was awarded $55 million by a Maryland jury in their medical malpractice lawsuit against Johns Hopkins Hospital. The family went to the hospital to deliver their son when they say a delayed C-section caused their son to lose oxygen.
The mother waited two hours before she was taken in for surgery, but by that time the child suffered permanent mental and physical disabilities. Their son now has cerebral palsy and a seizure disorder, the Baltimore Sun reports.
The jury awarded the family $26 million in pain and suffering, $25 million for past and future medical expenses, and $4 million for future lost wages. The state cap will lower the award to $29.6 million.
