Driver injured by airbag, NHTSA investigates

Posted on May 17th, 2012 No Comments

A man driving a new 2012 Hyundai Elantra was injured after a side-curtain airbag deployed and dislodged a metal bracket, slicing his ear in half. The driver has complained to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, or NHTSA, which will now launch an investigation.

The NHTSA and Hyundai will investigate to see if this problem could occur in all 2012 Elantras. Hyundai says it has not received any other reports of injuries and does not plan on issuing a recall at this time. So far they have not been able to inspect the vehicle in question.

The Elantra, Hyundai’s second-best selling car, was recently named North American Car of the Year.
