Foreign Objects in Food
A few years ago, a woman ordered a bowl of chili from a popular fast food restaurant and claimed to have found a finger in her food. It was later determined not to have come from the fast food restaurant and to have been planted by the woman for publicity and other goals, but finding a foreign object in a food or drink is not nearly as uncommon as one would hope or believe.
While fingers are particularly awful to find in one’s food, they are by no means the only things to have been found in someone’s dinner. Reports of fingernails, toe clippings, and a wide number of other things have all been reported in food. Body parts are awful but they’re nothing compared to some of the other items that have been found in food.
Because of the large number of foods that are made in factories with machines churning constantly, there is always the possibility that something could come lose and fall into whatever is being produced. In fortunate situations, the screw or piece of metal is discovered before it encounters a tooth or cuts part of the mouth.
Unfortunately, not all foreign objects are found before they reach the mouth. When a screw encounters a tooth, someone is going to lose and in most cases that is the tooth. In addition to being an inconvenience to have a tooth repaired, it is dangerous to have unsanitary, metal objects floating around in one’s food.
