$20.5 Million Medical Malpractice Award Granted

Posted on November 26th, 2008 No Comments

A family was awarded a $20.5 million in a medical malpractice case by a jury in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania this last week.

The family sued over severe complications and errors that arose during the birth of their son.  According to reports, the plaintiff went into the hospital the day her baby was born because she believed that there was a problem with her unborn child.

It took 2 hours for her to be attended to by an obstetrician, during which time her child was deprived of oxygen.¬† Additionally, these problems were made worse by the doctor’s decision to induce labor.

Because of these errors, the baby boy delivered (who is now 7-years-old) suffers from cerebral palsy as well as severe neurological disorders, is nearly blind, and is mentally retarded.
